LAMINATE FLOORING

Texture, high gloss, handscraped, smooth  - dark, light, medium shades - so many options.

WHAT IS

LAMINATE FLOORING?

Laminate flooring is a synthetic floor that arrived on the flooring market in the 1970’s. The first man-made alternative to natural wood, laminate quickly gained popularity as manufacturers created increasingly realistic looks that could easily pass for real hardwood. Laminate planks are solid without give and movement, similar to traditional hardwood.

Laminate Floor Composition Layers Cutaway

Laminate flooring is made almost entirely out of wood products - together with wood fiberboards and anti-abrasive materials bonded together forming a laminated plank.

The laminated plank is typically comprised of 4 layers.

  1. Wear LayerThe wear layer is the outermost layer and is what protects your laminate floor from stains, fading and daily wear and tear. It’s the reason that 10 years from now, after the wear and tear of everyday life, your laminate floor will still look great.

  2. Print LayerThe print layer, or decorative layer, is what gives the laminate a look of wood, porcelain, stone or other natural materials. It can include rougher, more natural looking scrapes and knots just like real hardwood flooring. It's literally a high-resolution photo of the material being printed on your floor and is shockingly convincing.

  3. Base Layer: The base layer, or core layer, is the primary structural layer that gives laminate its strong durability. It is composed of either HDF (high density fiberboard) or MDF (medium density fiberboard). Higher quality products come with an HDF core, so take care when considering lower priced options. The HDF core is moisture resistant, which gives you more options and less worry than traditional hardwood. Fiberboards in water-resistant laminate floors may feature more resins, making it less susceptible to swelling in water.

  4. Backing Layer: This is the backbone of your laminate floor. It is the layer that adds additional support for more stability.

THE BENEFITS OF

LAMINATE FLOORS.

For those looking for the look of a hardwood floor, but with some distinct advantages over wood, laminate flooring is a great option. A modern and affordable hard surface flooring option, laminate comes in a range of wood styles, ceramics, plus beautiful tile and stone designs that easily adapt to any space.

Laminate flooring is a highly cost-effective solution, as it limits up-front costs when compared with traditional flooring materials. If installed properly, it can provide solid long-term value. Laminate flooring cost is comparable to resilient flooring.

COLORS & TEXTURES

Laminate flooring is constructed of durable wood materials and a realistic laminate layer printed to mimic the looks of hardwood, stone and even marble. The printed layer is covered with a strong wear layer that protects the visual and makes the flooring durable. Today’s laminates create stunning visuals that are often hard to differentiate from their hardwood and tile counterparts.

DURABILITY

Laminate flooring is durable, easy-to-maintain and resistant to stains, fading and wear. Some laminate is also water-resistant, making it a good option for high-traffic and moisture-prone areas in your home. These features make laminate floors a good choice for households with children and pets.

Commercial grade laminate flooring is a strong and cost-effective solution for many facilities, particularly with many of the new options available today.

MINIMAL MAINTENANCE

Ease of care and maintenance are where laminate floors shine. Clean-up in a matter of minutes, not hours. Simply wipe up spills as they happen and use your favorite static dust broom to sweep frequently. All you need is a damp cloth or mop for your weekly cleaning. For a deeper cleaning, a damp mop and mild cleaner will suffice. There is no special care or cleaner required to keep your laminate floor well maintained.

INSTALLATION OPTIONS

Laminate flooring is designed to be installed as a floating floor, meaning that it is not secured to the subfloor underneath, but rather floats by the means of an interlocking design. Each plank is constructed with a special locking mechanism so that it can be inserted into surrounding planks and locked together.
